AGE GROUP MATRIX

EXPLANATION OF AGE GROUP CHANGES

The US Soccer Federation (USSF) has recently mandated that playing age groups will change from the current 'School Year' (August 1 to July 31) format to 'Birth Year' (Jan 1 to Dec 31) format, and that certain younger age groups will play in 4v4, 7v7 and 9v9 formats (rather than 8v8) before moving on to full-field 11v11. This decision was made at the national level and is being implemented in state associations over 2016 and 2017. The earliest changes go into effect this spring, in March 2016.

This changes our age group designations slightly. For example, with the OLD designation, the U8 age group for Fall 2016 would have consisted of players born from August 1 2008 to July 31 2009.

These are the NEW age groups for Fall 2016:

2009 born players = U8
2008 = U9
2007 = U10
2006 = U11
2005 = U12
2004 = U13
2003 = U14
2002 = U15
2001 = U16
2000 = U17
1999 = U18
1998 = U19

In order to help understand the changes and adjustments being made during this transition period, we have put together a Team/Age Group Matrix for the following periods.

  • 2015-16 Season: through February 2016
  • 2015-16 Season: March-June 2016
  • 2016-17 Season: commencing July 2016
NOTE:
  • Old team names will remain on the website for the time being. i.e current team will be called the same name (e.g. U10 Black)
  • On each team page we will add the age range of players eligible to play on the team and short explanation of how and when the age group changes will come into effect
  • Just before the beginning of Spring (March), we will update the team pages to reflect the new team names and age groups. e.g 2004 or 2005. This will apply for 2003 and younger only. U14 and above will remain the same through Spring
  • In the fall the older teams will also change their names, and the whole club will be standardized under birth year classification, e.g. 2002 EGSL.
